The pleasure of getting a new Notebook

It's been almost 2 years since I gave myself a "proper" technology treat, (basically since I listened to the T Harv Eker tapes). But a diet-coke + notebook incident gave me a need for a new techlust object of desire...

It arrived yesterday, and I spent most of lastnight installing software on the newest addition to my family - a Dell lattitude 420 ultra-portable notebook.

It really is lovely. Not a work of art like my old VAIO, and not a thing of wonder like my first blackberry. Rather a lovely piece of tech that appears to meet 90% of the criteria I had for an ultra-portable to use for software development on the train and at lunchtimes.

It's the first notebook I've owned where I haven't had a single hick-up installing or configuring ANY of the services I need - LAN, wifi, bluetooth dialup over 3G mobile, .net development tools all worked / installed first time without any drama.

The whole thing is underwhelming, which is suprisingly reassuring. My life is so incredibly busy at the moment I haven't got the time to spend conquering the nuances on a new machine. I used to get a great buzz from doing that, but right now I really needed something that let me to do what I brought it for - and this does.

Only time will tell if it was a great purchase, but I'm very happy so far.
