A realtime datafeed?

Well - thanks to the guys at RBS and their leaving gift of cold hard cash I decided to treat myself to a Timex Data Recorder (II) to go with my heart-rate monitor and associated watch.

I do feel a bit of a faker wearing a watch with the words IronMan written on it!.

I find it interesting seeing the data after a session, and my a-retentive side is certainly motivated to ensure I have a full data-set with no missing days - which adds a little more insentive to get off my but and move :)

In terms of motivation, I have to say I've found it really easy to do so far this week. I've really enjoyed everything except the Tae Bo which was just ok.

Graphs and numbers time. Here's the heart-rate trace from yesterdays Tae Bo:

Note: The two toxic-green lines represent the 'Target Heart Rate' zone that I should be trying to stay within. The tail off at the end is really just so see how long it takes to recover from the workout.

My watch estimated that as a 625 kCal 'session' :)

Here's the trace for todays cycling:

Today the watch estimate that at as a 729 kCal session. Which is nice.

So that was a cycle down to our local park. 3 laps round the pond, and a cycle back.

The big dip at about 13 mins is me waiting for the traffic lights to change (traffic lights for cyclists to cross the main road - cool). The 3 peaks at 17, 21 & 24 mins represent a particularly steep bit of the pond-laps, the dip at 26 is the traffic lights on the way back, and 26->35 is me cycling home - clearly harder work than cycling there in the first place. Hills eh!

And here's the summary for the week so far (since I brought the data recorder):
20061012WeekSummary.jpg
Note: the zones are as follows:
Zone
Description
% calories
burned from
fat
1
Warm up 85%
2
General Fitness 85%
3
Aerobic Zone 85%
4
Anaerobic Zone 15%

The toxic-green lines on the activity graphs represent the combination of Zone 2 & 3.

So all in all - I think it's going pretty well.
